If certain conditions are met, you may be exempt from consumption tax under the Export Goods Sales System.

Eligibility for Tax-Free Shopping:

Non-residents with foreign nationality

  • Individuals with “Temporary Visitor,” “Diplomat,” or “Official” visa status
  • Individuals granted permission to stay in Japan under Articles 14–18 of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act

Non-residents with Japanese nationality

  • Individuals who can verify, through a certificate of residence or a copy of the supplementary family register, that they have continuously maintained an address or place of residence outside Japan for at least two years.

*A copy of a residency certificate or supplementary family register must have been issued on or after the date six months prior to the date of the tax-exempt purchaser’s most recent entry into Japan.

*Please note that if we are unable to verify your landing permission sticker or stamp, we cannot process tax-free transactions.

Tax-Free Conditions:

  • Tax-free sales are available when the purchase amount meets either of the following conditions:
  1. Consumables total between ¥5,000 and ¥500,000 (excluding tax).
  2. The combined total of general goods and consumables is at least ¥5,000 (excluding tax).

*If the purchase amount of general goods exceeds ¥1,000,000 (excluding tax), a copy of the passport page showing the photo is required.

*All purchase amounts presented above refer to the total purchase amount at a single store in a single day.
